Michael Kincaid, a retired Marine Corps Sgt. Major turned English Literature Professor, and his wife Doris, become involved in a caper while on their honeymoon in Long Beach, WA. Their first day at Long Beach, a stranger recognizes Michael as the author of the Harry Steele detective novel series, introduces himself, then asks Michael to investigate a mundane problem within his family, keeping or disposing of their three generation legacy; the Heinrich Voelcker farm in Idaho. This request ends up being more than Michael and Doris bargained for, turning their honeymoon into a kidnapping and conspiracy investigation of a mysterious third party trying to swindle the Voelckers out of their legacy.

About the Author
Captain D. M. Ulmer, a 1954 graduate from the US Naval Academy, served thirty-two years in submarines and submarine support related assignments. He authored Silent Battleground, Shadows of Heroes; Count the Ways, Missing Person, the Roche Harbor Caper and the Long Beach Caper. He contracted his first published book at age seventy-nine. Now, eighty-one, Ulmer has completed a novella, Where and When, and is well into a third Submarine action thriller, Smokeboaters. He said recently, "I'm working hard to figure out what I want to be when I grow up." Captain D volunteers twice weekly at a local hospital. He says of this, "What a fabulous job. On the way to work, if I had a tail, it would be wagging. Interfacing personally with a hundred plus patients per month is likely the most inspiring experience of my life. Many of these personalities find there way into my novels. Art imitates life, I'm told." In a recent Patriot Media, Inc. interview D.M. shared his career history and lined up his priorities: "Thirty-two years in the Submarine Service was a good start. Next came Boeing Company (1979-96), but this was not my career either; my life-long goal; be a published book author." Captain Ulmer went on to say, "Getting old is not for sissies. But if you want to keep it going just remember; sitting on one's laurels is fatal. What you have done does not sustain; only what you do can achieve that. Aside from writing exciting submarine thrillers, romance novels, and now launching a new detective series with his series included in Patriot Media, Publishing's Tea and Crumpet Capers, Ulmer enjoys sailing, flying in old Stearman Bi-planes, and continues to visit his Submarine friends whenever possible. When he's not writing or working, he gives his time to his community of Redmond, WA. In addition to his work at Overlake Hospital Medical Center, Ulmer volunteers at the Seattle Museum of Flight. He lives in Redmond, WA with his ever-supportive wife Carol.
