Mary began her publishing career as the co-author of the book, I'M STILL STANDING: FROM CAPTIVE U.S. SOLDIER TO FREE CITIZEN - MY JOURNEY HOME (Touchstone, 2010), which chronicles the story of Shoshana Johnson, a member of the 507th Maintenance Company who was captured during an ambush and held prisoner in the early days of the Iraq War. The book was nominated for an NAACP Image Award in the literary category for best Auto/biography in 2010. Mary also co-authored SOLDIER, GENERAL, MOTHER, SELF (Water Street Press, 2013), the story of how a small town, African-American girl became the first nationally nominated African-American female General Officer in the Army National Guard. BG (ret.) Julia Cleckley's story is one of tragedy and triumph that will inspire and encourage.
