About the Author
After receiving a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering in 1966 Ben worked for Northern Electric (Northern Telecom and then Nortel) for two years as a test set engineer. Then it was back to the University of Waterloo for a Master of Applied Science in 1970. Consulting engineering for the next few years included designing the controls for large telescopes and Heavy Water Plants as well as test equipment for the Canada Spacearm. Subsequent projects involving the recycling of scrap tires into farm fence boards as well as the development of a novel ground coil for Geothermal heat pumps resulted in several patents being issued. Subsequent projects have included the production of plural component high-pressure pumps for the window industry. All during those years reading research was being carried out for the present project but actually writing the book was not envisaged until more recently. Altogether the writing phase has been spread over about ten years as was necessitated by the large amount of reading that had to be done to ensure that a credible discussion resulted. The reading never stops as even during the final phases of writing supportive information from several more books was identified and incorporated. This has resulted in a cohesive theory which accommodates the facts as well as they are known. Of course this offering is still only an opinion and everyone is entitled to an opinion. It is hoped that the present opi9nion will be helpful to many.
