Understanding the Role of Equity

Leaders at both school and district levels need to understand the complexities of equity and its role in order to support their students and staff and to avoid the pitfalls that their colleagues have become victims to due to a lack of knowledge and perspective. Beginning with a foundational understanding surrounding the multifaceted aspects of equity in the school setting, this book supports the researched practitioner with resources and tools to explore policies, practices, and daily decisions that occur as a result. The hands-on approach of case study analysis, followed by the factual review of "what happened" in the actual scenarios, allows for a self-reflective examination of individual decision making and insight concerning what pitfalls to avoid and/or expect. Lindenmuth, David T.: - David T. Lindenmuth is a faculty member of the College of Education at Rowan University and the Director of the Rowan Institute for Educational Leadership, USA. He has over thirty years of experience working in school districts (ranging from high needs to affluent), preparing students for the opportunities to succeed in various roles including teacher, counselor, principal, and superintendent. In addition to his background in education, he previously served in the elected positions of city councilman and county commissioner. He was the first county-wide Black elected official in the region.
